Honoring our Military and Veterans, HD style
Harley Davidson wanted to honor their fans in the service during military appreciation month. With more than 2.5 million Facebook fans, they decided to create an application that would let military riders tell their story.
Current and retired military riders posted stories through a simple form on Facebook, with a photo of their ride and years of service. The Drupal CMS allowed client to review and approve posts to appear in a photo stream, and also to choose a featured rider for each day. Anyone could like and share the content, including digital postcards honoring each branch of the service.
Robust tracking through Drupal and Google Analytics allowed us to track individual likes and shares of each piece of content as well as time spent on site.
Within a week of launch, the application had been viewed more than 8,000 times, nearly 750 stories had been submitted and more than 300 digital postcards had been shared. Users also spend an impressive 3.5 minutes average within the application. The application was only promoted within Facebook by posts to Harley’s wall—eventually thousands of stories were shared during the 6 weeks the application was live.
